Leon Roy is the 2007 FBF Angler of the Year In
a year when the members of Big Bend Bass showed the rest of the state that we
are a force to be reckoned with, Leon Roy has topped it off with the Minn Kota
Tournament Trails Angler of the Year award. On the strength of a second place
finish at Lake Okeechobee (behind fellow club member Cedric Perry) and a first
place finish at the Harris Chain of lakes (an event that saw Daniel "Puddin"
McCall finish second) Leon used solid performances all year to outpace several
quality Federation anglers. The Angler of the Year award ensures leon a spot on
the 2008 Florida Bass Federation State Team which will compete in June 2008 in
the Southern Divisional tournament at Lake Norman in North Carolina. This will
be Leon's 4th state team appearance one of which led to his appearance as the
Florida contender at the 2005 Federation National Championship. Congratulations
Leroy!
Junior
Bassmaster Member Michael Maskevich is 2007 11-14 State Champion! Junior
Bassmaster of Tallahassee member Michael Maskevich has set the bar high for his
club by winning the 11-14 year old State Championship title at the Florida Bass
Federation Junior State Championship on the Butler Chain near Orlando. Michael
brought in a 5 fish limit weighing 11.77 pounds to easily handle the field
including the 2006 champion, Nick Thliveros who finished second in the event.
With this win Michael has earned himself a trip to the National Guard Junior
World Championship to be held in Hot Springs Arkansas in conjunction with the
FLW Championship. Maskevich joined the Junior Bassmasters of Tallahassee in 2005
and earned the Angler of the Year award that year and again in 2006.
Leon Roy Keeps the Tradition Alive Big
Bend Bass is proud to announce that we have placed another member on a
Federation State Team. Leon Roy boated two limits for a total of 22.02
pounds at the Florida Bass Federation's State Championship tournament held on
the St Johns River October 22nd and 23rd 2005. His weight was good enough for a
9th place finish overall and a spot on the Federation State Team when it travels
to Kentucky Lake in Tennessee in June of 2006 for the Federation Southern
Divisional tournament. Leon received the 9th place check, Ranger Cup money and a
new Minn Kota trolling motor for his efforts. He will also receive assistance
with his traveling expenses when he goes to the Divisional tournament.
Leon's
finish makes him only the second member in club history to have earned a spot on
three state teams. Heath Annin is the only other member to hold that
distinction. Ultimately Leon would like to repeat his last state team experience
where he earned his way to the 2005 Federation National Championship tournament. Since
1999 Big Bend Bass has placed at least one member on all but one Federation
State Team and has had one State Champion. (Howard Cartright in 1999)
Congratulations to Leon on a tournament well fished, keeping the strong
tradition alive! Leon Roy's sponsors include the Bass

Tradition! Since
the 1999 State Championship there has only been one Florida Federation State
Team without Big Bend BASS contributing at least one member. The 2005 State Team
will once again be represented by Big Bend, thanks to the efforts of David
Mock. In the state tournament at Lake Toho in October, David's day one weight of 7.44 had him back in the pack a bit going
into day two. Late in the afternoon of the second day David was flippin buggy
whips and set the hook on what was to become the big fish of the tournament and
the Federation's big fish of the year, a nice 9.60 pound monster. "I had
fifteen minutes left and needed a good fish." David explained. "I had
found some decent fish in some buggy whips on Cypress Lake. I started flipping a
Zoom Speed craw, got the bite, got the fish in the live well and had to leave
for the weigh in." The fish anchored a second day limit weighing 17.38
pounds. His two day total of 24.82 pounds was good enough for a 9th place finish
and a spot on the 2005 State Team. The team will compete in the Federation
Divisional tournament on Lake Okeechobee next June. As
a result of his finish David not only received the 9th place and big fish check
for the tournament but as a member of the Florida Federation State Team he will
receive, among other things, a new Minn Kota trolling motor and a check to help
with his traveling expenses in June. Congratulations David, thanks for keeping
the tradition alive!

2005
Florida Bass Federation State Team
"Lucky Leroy" Does it Again! Congratulations
are in order! Leon Roy traveled to Paducah Kentucky earlier this month as part
of the Florida Bass Federations 12 man State Team with one goal in mind. Win the
State and get to the next level, the Federation National Championship. Leon
managed to catch 17 pounds 14 ounces during the three day tournament on the
severely rain swollen Ohio River, good enough to place 16th overall and more
importantly win the top spot in the state. He will be fishing for the state of
Florida in the Federation National Championships next spring on a so far
unannounced body of water. If he manages to beat the rest of the anglers from
the southern division, Leon could very well be representing the southern
division in the 2005 Bass Masters Classic to be held July 29-31 in Pittsburgh
Pensylvania. Congratulations go out to Leon and well wishes for the National
Championship tournament. Leroy boy you have gone and done us proud! Keep it up!
To
see a profile on Leon click on the Bass Man 2003 button above. The
members of Big Bend Bass used the May tournament at the Ochlockonee River
State Park to hold our annual conservation event. For the last several years we
have been sending out a garbage bag with each boat with orders to fill em up. We
are happy to say that this year many members reported garbage hard to find.
Funny how when your looking for garbage it seems to stick out. There was a noticeable
absence of junk on the rivers this year. Nice to see.... or not see.....
The
members of Big Bend Bass played Garbage Man for the day.
Big Bend B.A.S.S. is proud to announce that two of our members
have earned spots on the Florida B.A.S.S. Federation 12 man State Team and will
participate in the Southern divisional tournament on Kentucky Lake in June 2004. Leon
Roy V and Heath Annin finished 6th and 10th respectively in
the State Championship tournament held on Lake Seminole earning themselves a
trip to the Federation divisional tournament. This is Leon's second trip to a
divisional tournament and Heath's third. Making a State team is an extremely
difficult thing to do with hundreds of anglers from across the state trying
every year. Leon and Heath have both worked very hard for this honor.
Congratulations to you guys. Good Luck to both of you. Unfortunately only one
person from the team can move on to the Federation National, Here's hope'n it's
one of you two! Florida
